Success!

Attempt #3 at making crossbody bags for the great granddaughters is a success!

Only three pockets on this one ( if I make another one, I might add a fourth pocket to the back) - two that shut with a snap and one that zips closed.  AND a matching coin purse ( first time for this pattern, too).  Still want to make a scrunchie out of the black fabric...maybe today.

I think I'm going to try bag #2

again but make it about 3/4" - 1" wider...that was the only disappointing part of it - it was a little too narrow to hold a cell phone.

One down and six? to go - the amount depends on whether I decide to also make them for my 4 Saginaw granddaughters and 1 granddaughter in law...we'll see.

And then I got the 'great' idea to make quilts for my friend and her husband for Christmas this year... we'll see if that actually happens - most likely it will be next year....got wayyy too much stuff to finish as it is - grkds t-shirt quilts for example - have one top waiting to be quilted but still others that haven't even been started!

And on that note, I need to get to working on something instead of sitting here.

It's been a month?

 It's been a month to the day since my last post - in a way, it seems longer ago than that, but in another way, it doesn't seem it's been that long.

I really haven't had a lot to post about... haven't felt up to doing much of anything  - tired of my lack of ambition.  :( .  

I have done a few projects but not near as many as I should have.

I did make this bird feeder.  I had the oversized coffee cup ( hubby used to eat his Cheerios from it), bought the plate at the $1.25 store ( former Dollar store) and my youngest daughter helped me get the "sign" into a format that I could resize and then print onto waterslide decal paper.

And I've been working on crossbody bags for the great gds for Christmas this year.  The first one I made used themed fabric that ended up being too young for any of them...(who knew that 10 was too old for something Frozen themed).

As you can see, I also made a little change purse to go with it.  What you can't see are the matching scrunchies that are inside the little bag.  Since the girls are all too old for this/ these, I dont know what I'll do with them.  

The next attempt at a crossbody bag was a real PITA.  Some parts of the pattern didn't make sense so I had to 'wing' it.  It still came out cute, but unfortunately about half an inch too narrow for a phone.

The only other thing I've been working on is this...

I don't like the brown discs...they are hard to read and I had to find a white pen to write names and dates on them....decided quite awhile ago that I was going to paint them a lighter color. 

 Finally did it...just need to add the names and dates to them now.  The white colored ones are the backs of either the blue or the pink.  I painted that side too so that I could put the birth year there to help me remember just how young - or old - they are.

And that's it.  Today is grocery pickup and groomer day for Buddy.

I'm making progress

I started and/or finished a few quilt tops this past week. I wish I  could say that I  completed a few, but that would have involved using Mo'e but that hasn't been happening.

I did finish the quilt top using the 'leftover' triangles from the 'Buzzsaw' quilt top, but apparently I've forgotten to take a pic.  Maybe later.

Next up was one I've been wanting to do for several months.

That's all there is to it...five inch blocks.  The colored ones were from 2 charm packs, but I had to cut the white blocks from yardage and that was what was holding me back from doing it.  It wasn't as bad/boring as I'd told myself it would be.

and it's  grasshopper approved!  Btw that's the first grasshopper I've seen this year- kinda weird. 

Next up was this project...which had also been on my 'wanting to do' list for several months.  I'm not sure I'm done with it yet, though.  I'm thinking about adding a black border - maybe 3" - all around; it needs to be a bit larger than it is right now.

OOPS!!  I just noticed that I posted the wrong pic above... I saw the mis-sewn block as I was taking the photo and took the top down and corrected it immediately then took another photo, which is what I THOUGHT I posted.  

Yesterday, before going to our family reunion, I dug into my Orange scraps and made my Aug. RSC2022. 

Then, it was on to working on another 'want to do someday' quilt...one that I've been wanting to do for YEARS.

I bought a couple of fat quarter bundles from The Quilt Show that were perfect to use in this quilt.

There are 9 fqs in the bundle but I only need 8... and only need one of the bundles so I'll have them for another project.

Here's what I did after I came home from the reunion.  Only the faces have been appliqued down - will wait to do the eyes and noses after I finish the other four blocks so I don't have to keep changing threads.

And I guess that's it for now. I have a couple other non-quilting projects in the works, but nothing in the 'ready to share' phase yet.

I'm addicted

There hasn't been a lot of sewing being done around here....some, but not a lot.  There's been more fabric and pattern acquisition though (like I really NEED any more of either); I'm beginning to believe that my addiction isn't to quilting as much as it is to the collecting of fabrics and patterns.  I think I need an intervention.  But, on the bright side, it's keeping me off the street corners and out of the bars so it must be a good thing, right?

Blocks and rows sewn together on my "Buzzsaw"...a Craftsy.com class taught by Kimberly Eimo.

It's not very big, but it will be closer to the size I want once I add borders.  

In making the Buzzsaw block, you draw a line from corner on the back of a pair of 10" blocks and sew on that line ( a concept that gave me a little grief), then cut 1/4" away from that seam/ stitching line.  You only use that part of the 10" square...which seems like a big waste of fabrics until later when she shows how to turn them into pinwheel blocks, which I finished doing last night; today's plan is to finish squaring up those blocks before sewing them into rows and then a quilt top.

During all of this, I found a pattern that I had used many years ago, but I don't know what happened to that quilt.  Contacted my daughter's who said that their quilts were packed away but that it didn't look like one they had. 

It was starting to bug me, so I pulled out all of the quilts from my closet and went through them one by one - nope, not there either so it must have been one that I gave to a charity.  Will just have to make a second one - to keep this time.

It's an Edyita Sitar pattern ...I  just needed the paper triangle pieces again, so I ordered them and they arrived yesterday.

Since I had all of my quilts out and have no intention of keeping most of them ( will talk about that later), I  decided to go through them and separate them into keep/ don't keep piles.  

Here's the don't keep pile...

Sometime this week, I  want to work on my Aug RSC2022...and still have a COVID quilt block to finish.

This is the one I finished the other day; just trying to decide how/if I want to fill in the letters.

My sunflower "gift" from the critters my son and I feed.  Bought some new pots yesterday so I have some transplanting to do sometime this week.

Right now,, Buddy is letting me know that it's (past)time for his  morning walk - and here I sit, still in my nightgown.  Guess I'd better go.

Time flies

I can't believe it's been almost two weeks since my last post...I  guess I've been too busy to notice.

This past Monday, I  had lunch with quilting friends (ALWAYS FUN) and then, that evening, I went back downtown to watch the new Elvis movie- it was OK but I left feeling a little 'off'... I think more than anything I felt sad - and MAD- that someone took and used people like his so-called manager did.

OK, let's catch up on quilting...well, sewing.

First off, I made Buddy a 'cool tie' in hopes it would help him in the sweltering weather we were having.

Maybe it did but I also worried about that extra weight on his neck.. he seems to be extra sensitive there l think to do with his age.

I finally got the last rows of the 'Over the Hill' quilt sewn on....and had enough blocks left over to make an 'American Girl' doll sized quilt (top)...and I THINK there are still 4 blocks left which I could make into a pillow top.

Oh yeah, before I forget...I  finished the dog wall hanging.

I've had these string blocks sitting around for a few months knowing what I wanted to do with them, but never got around to doing it until this past weekend...then finished adding borders the day before yesterday.  I don't like how 'wavy' it looks on the design wall knowing that it will be fine once it's on Mo'e...sigh, it is what it is.

I thought I had a pic of it with the white borders on, but I guess I didn't.  Oh well, you'll have to use your imagination.  :)

Next up was a project from a new book that I received Monday. . I'm determined to use up my scraps!

I've completed the first three blocks using up some of the Green scraps that I have way too many of.

There's one more block to share...that's this months birdhouse BOM from Fatcat Designs.

I also prepared another block for my 2020 Covid quilt, but haven't stitched the pieces down yet so no pic today.

I think I've got you pretty much caught up with what I've been doing quilt wise. The same quilt is on Mo'e...maybe I'll get back to it tomorrow or this weekend....depends on weather and my energy (or lack of).

I almost forgot that I  have a 'funny' to share....When my son, Chris, was walking up to my deck yesterday, he saw 'my' black squirrel crawling on it's belly across the deck towards the squirrel feeders.  He said it looked like it was trying to get past without Buddy or Prissy seeing it.  I wish I had seen it..lol

catching up

I've been sewing...just not posting...shame on me.  I'll have to look back at my photos to see what I've done since the blog post.

OK, here's my July RSC 2022

I finally got these blocks sewn into rows.. even got the first two rows sewn together..then I lost interest...I'll get it done tomorrow, I hope.

Before that one, I  did this one using one of the fabrics that I bought at the quilt show last Friday...think it might appeal to an older gentleman.

Right now, it's going to join the others in my 'waiting to be quilted' pile.

Next came a 1600 quilt top made from some of my binding leftovers. The strips had been laying next to my sewing chair taunting me.

Last night I  grabbed a couple little bins that have been residing under Moe's frame for quite awhile.  There wasn't anything in them that inspired me so I went into my stash room and rummaged around a little bit and found fabric for this project.  It's only part of the pattern......there are supposed to be three little blocks underneath -each with its own butterfly..one was enough for me.

The butterfly isn't fastened down yet...I'll do that after the quilting is done.

So that's it for now.  Tomorrow, I  hope to finish stitching the 'zigzag' quilt and I HOPE to finish the project that's been on Mo'e for way too long.

A little progress

Not real happy with it because of wavy border, but it should quilt out; its in the waiting to be quilted pile now.

I've also been working on some potholders for my oldest daughter - no pics yet.

I have the zigzag quilt partially laid out on my design wall...not sure I can get all of the rows on at the same time...will find out next week...maybe. I want to get the potholders done first so I can send them off to her for her birthday which is in about a week.

Quilt show to attend on Saturday with a quilting pal, which I'm sure will involve lunch and a trip to the local quilt shop...always a fun day:) .

OK, gotta hit the shower, then walk Buddy before dr appt ( another follow up post knee surgery), and then a stop at Walmart on the way home.  THEN, I should be able to get back to working on the potholders.
