My sewing room isn't clean but I have been working on it. This week I hit a snag - like my husband in the hospital type of snag - so not much is getting done quilty wise. I got my tracking sheet for RSC2020 printed out and I also received my first pattern for the new fatcatpatterns.com BOM for 2020.
Last week, while working on cleaning the sewing room, I found a plastic baggie with these pieces of fabrics in it. I had received it as part of a quilt friend's UFO stash before she passed away. I can't remember if 8 of the blocks were already done or if I made them into half square triangle blocks and didn't make the 9th one for some reason.
Either way, I made a 9th block and placed all up on my design wall and decided this might be the best I can do with what I have.
There were a few scraps left... but I had to get creative to use most of them for the outer border. I went down to the local quilt shop for the fabric for the inner border (and binding)
and the backing fabric. The quilt top's colors are kind of watercolory and was hard to match - especially from the fabric choices in the sale room. Trust me, there are LOTS of fabrics back there - just nothing much that looked like it might work with the quilt top.
When I made the final pinwheel block, I kept the 'extra' triangles and stitched them into small blocks... and then made them into coasters. Whoever gets the quilt ( which is lap size - like wheelchair lap size), will also get the coasters.
Ok, next up was working on my fatcatpatterns.com Snowperson quilt.... Obviously, I was not paying close enough attention when sewing the bottom row onto the second row... arghhh.
Ahhh, there - that's better. I couldn't find anything in my stash that I thought would work for the outer border so stopped at Walmart on my way home from the hospital yesterday and picked up a darkish red with little white 'stars' and will use that for the border. The binding is the same green as the background... I've got this bright plaid/check/geometric type print fabric for the background... also from the sale room at the lqs. It has all the colors of the quilt top in it and it makes me happy.
Once hubby gets home ( in another day or two), then I can get back to work on this top and it can join the 'waiting to be quilted' gang.
Yesterday, hubby was complaining about being cold in the hospital... he had a sheet and two thin blankets over him - but he was also close to a LARGE window. I told him I would bring in a quilt for him... I took this pic while he was sleeping. He said it was going on his bed when he gets home - I had to inform him that it was too big for his bed and I didn't want cat hair all over it ( it can sometimes be a pain to get that stuff off!). He also kept trying to sell it! ... telling various nurses/medical different prices... the lowest being $1200.00 lol
While I was reading soscrappy's post today, I thought I'd better be prepared for the first color for the RSC2020 to be released next week. I suddenly remembered this pattern that I bought a couple of weeks ago. Now, I'll have to figure out what I have - if anything - for the background fabric. I'll probably only do the smaller quilt with 9 tigers... the larger one takes 16 tigers and makes a twin size and I don't want to go that big. MAYBE I'll add just 3 more ( one more row across)... I can handle that. ( I'm trying to keep as many of my projects as I can measuring 60" x 60" at the most).
take care....
ttyl.......

Your hubby seems to value your quilts highly! But I suspect you didn't have any takers... Yet that level of interest makes it sound like he is doing well and that is good. Looks like you've got a good batch of projects to start the new year. Once I get home from retreat, I can really dig in. Right now my focus is limited to what I can take with me - no room for squirrels, sadly!
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so sorry to hear your hubby is in the hospital! Hope he is doing better. That does throw a wrench into any other plans you might have had! Those pinwheels are really pretty and love the snowmen, too! They look like they were fun to work on.
