I finished stitching in the sashings yesterday... decided to go with 'sloppy' straight lines just like I did with the stems of the flowers... I like it :). Now, all that's left is to do the borders... yesterday, I decided that I wanted to use a somewhat matching thread for this part and ordered some from quiltedjoy.com - it's already on it's way... it's in Detroit right now and will be here on Monday... YAY!
I did this block the day before yesterday... it was one of three 'kits' that had originally belonged to my friend, Annette, who passed away a few weeks ago. This one was just a bit more difficult because it was a Marti Michelle pattern that called for the use of some of her speciality rulers/templates, which I don't have and I'm not going to buy just for one or two blocks. I managed to work it out... I took a scrap triangle and trimmed it until it fit for the edges and corners and then I had to piece the borders strips because I cut them at 9 1/2" like the pattern said - and they were too short... must have been a typo. Once I stitched a piece back on each of the four strips, the block went together just like it should. I've never done this block before... I like it and think I might like to try and make a quilt with these blocks.
This one is the first one of Annette's blocks that I did... an actual log cabin that I didn't have to paper piece to get it to come out right. On the last strip, I did have to cut off about 1/2" tail, but that was it... you'll never understand just how thrilled this made me. Log cabins blocks are my nemesis and it just frustrates me to no end that I always have trouble making them without using paper piecing.
take care.....
ttyl........
