A day of frustration

The first bit of frustration was when I tried to open blogger.com on my tablet ... google was NOT co-operating.  I can get it on both my laptops and my phone with no problem, but on my tablet, Google wanted my password and no matter what I typed it was wrong and I was going in circles.  It's not like I don't know what my password is - I have it written down!!  And I'm sure it's the same one I used to open blogger.com on my other computer type stuff, but that just wasn't good enough for Google.  Oh well, I just switched over to my phone...

What I was trying to do was pull up the instructions for the first part of The Crafty Quilter's Summer Fun Quilt since I'm having 'issues' with HP and their ink cartridges ( another story that is long and boring) and I wanted to be able to see the next step as I worked along.

I was able to do it with my phone... and that's where the next frustrating thing happened.  The first thing you do is sew a red strip and a white strip together, then cut them apart and sew two together and repeat until you have two sets of the strips...

they look good, don't they?  Sigh... well, they were supposed to finish at 30.5" ... mine finished at...
So, I think there will be some 'fudging' going on somewhere down the road.

Then I went to do the second set of this week's assignment... again, frustration.  You were to make a tiny four patch and then surround it with half square triangles - each round getting progressively larger.  Well, my first set of half square triangles was ok, but the second one was supposed to trim out at 4 3/4" but mine was an uneven 4 1/2"... sigh.   This is where I usually give up; I'm just not meant to successfully do patterns like this; I'm a applique'r.  But I'm determined to see this one through... it's not that big ( can't remember size but something like 32" x 28") and there's applique' further on if I just hang in there.  I finally got them to the correct size and going in the right direction, but it took cutting the second and third round of half square triangles larger than required.
Like I said, I'm sure it's just me.. I feel 'all thumbs' when things like this happen.  I try so hard only to get myself more frustrated.  One of these days I'll learn - maybe.

Oh... and before all this happened, I got my fourth fox for RSC done....

Then, after I finished with the Summer Fun Quilt, I was trying to clean up a little more and grabbed a pattern that had most of the fabrics needed for it and I decided to start on it.... it's APPLIQUE!!!... and only nine blocks... it's also something like 56" x 60" .  I can't remember the name of it right now; I'll have to tell you later...  anyway, here's the first block fused to the background - no stitching yet.
You can't tell in this pic but the background is a yellow custard that I got from Connecting Threads... it turned out more yellow than I thought a custard would look, but it's going to be ok with the browns and oranges I'll be using for this quilt..... and, yes, this is another scrappy quilt.  Only the background ( and probably the backing) is coming from yardage.  I think this brown is scraps from the Labyrinth quilt that I made my son for Christmas a couple of years ago.  There's just enough left, I think, for a second dog block.

Ok, well that's it for today....

take care... hope you enjoyed your weekend

What to work on next

I finished the two gift quilts - and both have been delivered to a parent of the little girl recipient. I have the requested photo from one...
