This is a close up of the tulips to show some of the shadowing I did. First I tried it by stitching a blue line on the right side of every leaf and flower; I did that because when I used a blue Frixion pen to outline similar colors so that I'd know where to put the stitching, I noticed that it gave some depth to the quilt. After stitching a few lines, I realized that it wasn't working as well as the Frixion pen, but since I didn't want to un-stitch, I kept going. Once complete, I decided I'd try shading with a blue colored pencil - I think that worked better. It won't stay there if the quilt is washed, but it's a wall hanging so there's not much chance of that. I also used a white pencil to do a little bit of highlighting.
Now, I need to do something other than quilting - like maybe clean the kitchen ( after I have some breakfast).
