It's on the frame

and the first row is done.
I started bright and early again this morning and pieced together pieces for the backing ( pic later)... it wasn't that hard, but it did take quite a bit of time.  By noon, everything was loaded and ready to quilt.

I wanted to use poly threads instead of cotton on this quilt; thought about my variegated blue, but it's cotton and I didn't like it next to the blue in the quilt.  Checked my poly threads... have a tealish blue that I thought wouldn't work, but it does.  Then, while checking threads, I looked for a white poly in my stash - no such thing; I really need to start buying more poly threads - I don't have red in either poly or cotton, but that's fine today since I didn't want to stitch in the red anyway.  Anyway, because I don't have any white poly thread, I'm using the same tealish blue for the waves in the white strips.

Here's a close up of one of the blue squares... I'm doing Mariner's Compass in them.

Because I want to get this quilt done by Thursday and because I don't want to over quilt it - I want Tonya to be able to snuggle under it if she wants, the Mariner's Compass stars and the waves in the stripes will be all I'm doing; that's 'custom' enough what with all the stops and starts I'm having to do from block to block - or section to section.

Ok, back to it!

What to work on next

I finished the two gift quilts - and both have been delivered to a parent of the little girl recipient. I have the requested photo from one...
